‘The Last of Us Part 1’ shows that it is a true remake in its new trailer
'The Last of Us Part 1' shows its gameplay in a new video. The people of Naughty Dog show us the changes that will come to the remake in development.
The Last of Us Part 1, the remake of the first installment in the saga, has revealed new mechanics. In a new trailer posted on the PlayStation channel, several Naughty Dog developers come together to discuss the improvements this highly anticipated re-release will bring.
As you can see, The Last of Us Part 1 not only comes with an improved graphic section. The experience has been built from scratch. We will find improvements in the environment and the behavior of the enemies from new animations. There will also be new accessibility options.
The developers have placed great emphasis on the new AI of the NPCs. Based on the one used in The Last of Us Part 2, they have decided to rebuild the characters’ intelligence in the remake of the first installment. For example, companions like Henry or Ellie will know when an enemy will appear behind an object in the environment based on the last time he was seen near it.
A wholly renewed visual section
As for the graphic section, a great leap has been seen. Not only in terms of textures but also in the models of objects, structures, and characters. For example, they have left us a comparison where you can see the before and after of certain well-known characters. The difference is impressive and most noticeable in the facial and body animations.
This latest improvement is noticeable in the cinematics and when playing the game. Conversation sequences between characters will now not look stiff. Previously, they were just models that moved with a voice-over, which could feel artificial. However, we will see the characters act outside of the cinematics as well. Not an unpleasant addition.
We will also feel these improvements when controlling the characters. With the new AI, the protagonists can detect your upcoming movements, adapting their animations to make them look much more natural.
Destruction of the Environment in The Last of Us Part 1
Unlike the original title, the world of The Last of Us Part 1 will be much more vibrant. To do this, the developers have improved the destruction of the environment.
The materials will react as you expect. For example, if a bomb explodes behind glass, you will see how it explodes into the air and spreads around you. If you are otherwise taking cover behind a column while an enemy is firing, you will see the column crumble and break.
The number of destroyable objects has also increased, and Naughty Dog assures that this is only possible thanks to the power of the PS5.
Other improvements that will come to the title
A new Perma Death mode has been added. If you decide to play this way, the game will end after the first death. In a survival game like The Last of Us Part 1, the truth is that the arrival of this modality is quite welcome.
There are improvements in photo mode too. On the other hand, there will be unlockable models of the characters. This will allow you to see the construction of the latter in greater detail and the effort the studio has put into making them very detailed.
Of course, a lot of emphasis has been placed on the haptic functions of the DualSense controller. Thus, you can feel the environment, the shots, and many other elements that will give your games greater immersion.
Accessibility comes to The Last of Us Part 1. With it, Naughty Dog hopes to expand its player base so that many more people worldwide can enjoy engaging experiences.
The Last of Us Part 1 will be released exclusively for PS5 on September 2, 2022. However, it is known that there is a PC version currently in development. This is one of Sony’s moves to bring its biggest franchises to PC and hopefully lure them alongside PlayStation.
