Midjourney 5.1 is here and it’s crazy: know what’s new

Midjourney 5.1 is now available. We've tried it and it's complete madness. We explain how to activate it on Discord.

Midjourney 5.1 is now available and these are its news

Midjourney, the popular image-generating artificial intelligence, has received the long-awaited version 5.1. Its managers have introduced many new features, many of which are widely requested by the community.

During the last months, the creators of Midjourney have focused on improving the interpretation of the text (Prompts). This, of course, is reflected in images closer to the user’s request. With Midjourney 5.1, a new level of understanding has been reached, making images show even more fine detail.

However, they also know that some people expect to see high-quality images without entering an extensively detailed description. If you are among them, we have good news for you. Midjourney 5.1 is now capable of creating complex images with short prompts. Those just starting to interact with this artificial intelligence tool will receive this very well.

The above derives, of course, in that, Midjourney does a good part of the creative work. However, if you want the AI to respect the simplicity of your Prompt as much as possible, the new RAW mode will be at hand. When activated in the settings section, Midjourney 5.1 will offer you images similar to version 5.0.

Midjourney 5.1, on the other hand, brings with it significant improvements to image sharpening, as well as a reduction in borders and unwanted text artifacts.

To activate Midjourney 5.1, enter your Prompt, go to /settings, and click version 5.1.

Consider that Midjourney 5.1 is still in the testing phase. Its creators intend to evaluate its performance in the coming weeks. This means that version 5.0 is still available to everyone. It’s the default option (so you must enable 5.1 manually).

Here are some images we’ve generated with Midjourney 5.1. Yeah, it’s crazy.

Midjourney 5.1 debuts a new moderator with AI.

Finally, they announced that they had reactivated their moderation system in version 5.0 and any released later. After their previous proposal’s criticism, they dedicated efforts to improve it.

The moderator, also powered by artificial intelligence, can now understand contexts. Consequently, it is not limited to blocking the generation of images with prohibited words.

This new AI moderator replaces our old system based on blocked words. The new system understands words in context and should be much smarter and more nuanced.

The revamped moderation system in Midjourney 5.1 works like this. A basic AI will analyze all text requests. If it decides that a prompt is inappropriate based on its rules, it will display an alert. However, the user can submit an appeal, giving access to even more complex and intelligent moderation AI. This should be able to decide whether or not the Prompt is compliant.

Because the second AI requires more resources, users can only submit a maximum of 5 appeals every 24 hours. Of course, the amount can vary daily depending on the traffic your server receives.

Like Midjourney 5.1, the new moderation tools are in testing. The developers will listen to the community’s comments to address strange behaviors and improve them daily.
