Apple plans to release a cheap version of its Apple Glass, but you’ll have to wait to buy them

Apple could soon announce new mixed reality glasses (including virtual reality and augmented reality features) at a cheaper price than the headset that could arrive this year, as revealed by Ming-Chi Kuo in a new publication on his blog. g. The analyst has assured us that the company is working on more affordable versions of the so-called Apple Glass to increase the number of shipments. However, the launch of this variant will not be for at least three years: in 2025.

Apple, remember, is currently working on what is known as Apple Glass, its first virtual reality glasses that, according to rumors, could also include augmented reality functions. These would arrive in the coming months, with a launch in 2023 at the latest, and with powerful specifications to improve the viewing experience. Among them is a performance chip similar to the firms in its Macs or 4K screens in each lens. These features, however, could affect the price. The latest details place the cost at around 3,000 euros, prohibitive for many users.

Announcing a cheap version, therefore, would allow Apple to get closer to a more significant number of users. Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that Apple Glass shipments could reach 10 million units between 2025 and 2026, thanks to this second generation. It is not clear, yes, his cheap glasses will do without some features compared to the Apple Glass that could arrive between 2022 and 2023 or if they will include, instead, less powerful specifications. Its price is also unknown.

Regarding the first version of the Apple Glass, Apple is expected to include an M2 chip as the central processor. It will arrive, yes, in a base configuration. That is to say, an 8-core CPU and GPU would increase the RAM by up to 16 GB instead of the eight that the most basic variant of the mentioned SoC includes. The company would also add a second processor to manage the different sensors of the glasses.

On the other hand, Apple Glass is expected to include two OLED screens with 4K resolution to offer the user a complete viewing experience. As for its launch, it is rumored that Apple could officially reveal them this year. However, they would not go on sale until 2023 as part of a strategy to prevent leaks from ruining the wow factor.
