The NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti is now official: 12GB 4080 soul, but with the right price
The NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti finally saw the light. Its characteristics, yes, are practically the same as the canceled RTX 4080 12GB.
Taking advantage of its presence at CES 2023, NVIDIA finally announced the RTX 4070 Ti, the graphics card with which it intends to conquer the mid-range market. Its characteristics, yes, will seem quite familiar to you. As all the rumors and leaks pointed out, this proposal is the resurrection of the RTX 4080 12GB. But given its technical characteristics, it now has a “proper” price and nomenclature.
The RTX 4070 Ti differs almost nothing from the now-extinct base variant of the RTX 4080. It is based on the AD104 GPU and has 7,680 CUDA cores with a maximum turbo frequency of 2.61 GHz. It integrates 12GB GDDR6X memory at 21 Gbps, and its memory bus is 504 GB/s. In this last category, it falls behind its direct predecessor, the RTX 3070 Ti. How do these numbers translate into everyday activities? According to the data provided by NVIDIA, the RTX 4070 Ti easily surpasses the performance of the RTX 3080. NVIDIA is not afraid to say that the RTX 4070 Ti is ready for gaming at 4K resolution and 240 Hz. Many of these promises are based precisely on the intervention of DLSS 3. It is the first time that a video card from the green manufacturer has aimed at such a resolution and refresh rate in the mid-range. It will be exciting for consumers intent on upgrading their computers without breaking the bank.
The NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti has thankfully not inherited the cost of the 12GB RTX 4080. It’s slightly cheaper: $799. The only problem is that we will hardly find it at its suggested price, at least during the first months.
Another thing to remember is that the NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti will not have Founders Edition. The company preferred to cede marketing entirely to its partners, including MSI, Asus, Gigabyte, and PNY. All of them will start selling their cards on Thursday, January 5.
If your cabinet is limited in space, don’t worry. Unlike the 4080 and 4090, whose dimensions are enormous, the RTX 4070 Ti is more compact, mainly in its thickness, which is significantly lower than its older sisters.
The RTX 4000 family will comprise the 4090, 4080, and 4070 Ti. However, an even cheaper option is expected to be presented in the coming months, the RTX 4060. Those led by Jen-Hsun Huang want to cover all possible pockets.
