Lenovo presents its new Legion Slim laptops with integrated AI

The manufacturer gets on the train of artificial intelligence and announces new computers designed for gamers.

Lenovo Legion Slim 7i,

Lenovo announced its eighth generation of Legion Slim series laptops, designed for those who like to game on the go. The new PCs are among the first to incorporate AI, powered by 13th-generation Intel processors and NVIDIA RTX 40 graphics. The manufacturer integrated physical chips from the Lenovo Artificial Intelligence (LA) family, which adjusts the performance of the equipment in real time.

The model that tops the list is the Legion Slim 7i and its variant 7, a laptop with a 16-inch screen that integrates a WQXGA IPS panel up to 240 Hz. In terms of specifications, we find an Intel Core i9-13900H processor, GeForce RTX graphics 4070 from NVIDIA, up to 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, up to 1 TB PCIe (Gen4) SSD, and 99.99 Whr battery with fast charge.

As expected in these models, Lenovo has developed multiple configurations where the screen changes. Added to the 240 Hz variant, we find a Legion Slim 7i with a 165 Hz panel with 300 nits brightness, Dolby Vision support, and NVIDIA G-SYNC. For content creators, a 16-inch screen with 3.2K resolution (3200 x 2000 pixels) with a rate of 165 Hz and brightness of 430 nits is offered.

If Intel processors aren’t your thing, the Legion Slim 7 packs an AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS chip. Lenovo has not wanted to complicate the graphics and maintains the 8 GB GeForce RTX 4070. The rest of the specifications will not change so that users can configure it with the same amount of RAM and storage.

Legion Slim 5i: for gamers on a tight budget

Lenovo has an alternative if you need a gaming laptop but don’t want to spend much money. The Legion Slim 5i is cheaper than its big brother since it makes some sacrifices in components. At the outset, we find an Intel Core i7-13700H chip, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 407 GPU, up to 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, and PCIe Gen 4 SSD of up to 1 TB. The Slim Five variant integrates an AMD Ryzen 9 7840HS processor and maintains the exact specifications as its Intel counterpart.

This model offers an alternative with a thinner chassis and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU. As expected, the performance will be much lower since this chip is designed for games like FortniteLeague of Legends, or DoTA 2. Lenovo confirmed that the AMD-powered Legion Slim 5 will also come in a variant with a 14-inch OLED display, though it will launch later this year.

Lenovo leaves thermal management and performance in the hands of an AI.

As these are high-performance, thin-walled devices, Lenovo has used its ColdFront 5.0 thermal system, including hybrid heat pipes, phase change thermal compound, and a new air intake system. According to the manufacturer, the Legion Slim 7i produces only 48 dB of noise in performance mode thanks to a 9-blade fan. The new laptops’ cooling system is managed with AI’s help.

With the explosion of ChatGPT, more and more companies are interested in providing AI to their teams or services. Lenovo has jumped on the bandwagon, and as announced weeks ago, the manufacturer will use artificial intelligence algorithms to adjust thermal performance. The Legion Slim integrates the same AI chip as the Legion Pro, which monitors the frames per second while you play.

By performing real-time analysis, ColdFront 5.0 will modify power consumption for the best performance. The specifications promise that the AI will help achieve a TDP of up to 140 W on the Legion Slim 7i and seven models.
